Ingredients:
1 pound lean ground beef
2 tablespoons butter
1 small yellow onion, diced
1 small green bell pepper, diced
8 ounces brown mushrooms, minced
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 cup beef broth
Salt and pepper, to taste
4-6 hamburger buns
Provolone cheese slices (optional for topping)
Instructions:
1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and green bell peppers. Sauté for about 5 minutes until they soften.
2. Add the mushrooms and cook for another 2-3 minutes until they release their moisture.
3. Push the veggies to one side of the skillet and add the ground beef to the other. Brown the beef, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
4. Stir in the ketchup and Worcestershire sauce, then sprinkle in the cornstarch. Mix well.
5. Add the beef broth, bring to a simmer, and let the mixture thicken, about 5 minutes.
6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
7. Spoon the mixture onto hamburger buns, and for extra Philly flavor, top with Provolone cheese.
